These 21 free printable capybara coloring pages star a capybara soaking in a hot spring with an orange on its head, a mama with two babies, three friends in a yuzu bath and a sheet of nine capybara faces. Hi, I’m Niks. My niece went through a capybara phase last spring, and every time I printed one she asked the same things. Is it a quick one? And why does it have an orange on its head? The orange rating answers the first question. The facts further down answer the second. Want the whole herd? Grab the all-pages PDF.

How chill is each page? The orange scale

The orange rating comes from the measured number of spaces on each page. One orange is a quick win for small hands. Three oranges just means more to fill, so plan on a longer sit with colored pencils.

Our favorite capybara coloring pages

Capybara with an Orange in a Hot Spring

The cover: a chubby capybara in a round wooden tub with an orange balanced on its head, two more oranges floating in the water, steam swirls and sparkles. Most of its 55 spaces are in the tub’s wooden slats.

Mama Capybara with Two Babies

A mother capybara lies on a grassy patch with one baby snuggled at her side and a second peeking out in front. Only 18 spaces, and a sweet one for a brand-new big sister.

Nine Capybara Faces with Party Hats and More

Nine round faces in three rows of three, topped with party hats, an orange, a flower, a little bow, a crown, a leaf, a sun hat and a star with a heart. Kids love naming them. I’ve heard “Captain Crown” and “Lady Leaf.”

Three Capybaras in a Yuzu Bath

Three capybaras soak side by side in a hot spring ringed with smooth stones, with two yuzu fruits, steam lines and snowflakes inside a wavy border. It’s based on a real zoo tradition (see the facts below).

Capybara Giving a Turtle a Ride

A smiling capybara stands on a grassy patch with a little turtle on its back and a small bird by its feet. Real capybaras let other animals sit on them all the time, so this page comes with a fun fact built in.

Capybara Spa Day Doodles

The busiest page, at 72 spaces: capybara faces in towel turbans, rubber ducks, soap bubbles, a rolled towel in a basket, a teacup, slippers, two steaming bowls and an orange slice. I’d hand it to a ten-year-old. Or keep it for myself.

What color is a capybara?

Real capybaras are reddish brown to grayish brown on top, with a lighter, yellowish brown belly. You can color these capybara coloring pages true to life or go full pastel. My niece once made a lavender one and called it “a sunset capybara.” Fair enough.

Cute capybara coloring pages with friends

Capybaras get along with almost everyone, and several pages show it: Capybara with Duckling Friends, Capybara Giving a Turtle a Ride, Best Friends Capybaras Hugging and Mama Capybara with Two Babies.

Give each friend a color that stands out against brown: yellow ducklings, a green turtle shell, a blue bird. Color a duckling tan next to a tan capybara and it vanishes.

Capybara coloring sheets for busy hands

Nine Capybara Faces with Party Hats and More and Capybara in Four Seasons are sheets. Capybaras with Oranges on Their Heads Pattern lines up twelve little capybaras, and Capybara Spa Day Doodles is a doodle collage. Set a rule before you start, like one color per row. On the seasons sheet, try one palette per season: pink and green for spring, yellow for summer, orange for fall, blue for winter.

How to color capybara pages: 5 tips

1. Build the brown in two layers

Color the whole capybara tan first, then go over the back and the top of the head in a darker brown.

2. Save the eyes

Kawaii dot eyes are tiny. Color around them first so a heavy brown doesn’t swallow them.

3. Make the water look wet

Use light blue or turquoise and leave a few white gaps near the capybara for shine. On the hot spring pages, leave the steam white and give the space around it a soft peach.

4. Make the oranges pop

Bright orange, a tiny white dot left at the top and a green leaf. Orange on brown can get lost, so add a darker orange around the edge.

5. Match the tool to the child

Chunky crayons for the 1 orange pages. Colored pencils for the tub slats and the spa doodles. Markers need heavier paper so they don’t bleed through.

A few capybara facts to share while you color

  1. The capybara is the largest rodent in the world.
  2. Capybaras live in South America and rarely stray far from rivers, lakes, ponds and marshes.
  3. Their eyes, ears and nostrils sit high on the head, so a swimming capybara can see, hear and breathe with almost its whole body underwater. That’s the pose on Capybara Swimming Among Lily Pads.
  4. Capybaras eat plants, mostly grasses and water plants.
  5. Baby capybaras are called pups.
  6. Some zoos in Japan give their capybaras warm baths in winter, often with yuzu citrus floating in the water.

Capybara classroom and party ideas

I tried these at a Saturday library craft table, where the capybara pages ran out before the dinosaur ones:

  • Orange sorting. Kids sort pages into 1, 2 and 3 oranges, then check the table.
  • Capybara words. Rodent, pup, herbivore, riverbank, hot spring, yuzu, lily pad. Kids label each one they find.
  • Counting. The oranges pattern has four rows of three, a gentle first taste of multiplication.
  • A capybara’s day. Line up Capybara Swimming Among Lily Pads, Capybara Eating Watermelon, Capybara Reading on a Beanbag and Sleepy Capybara on a Cloud, then tell the story.
  • Party coloring book. Staple the all-pages PDF into a book for party bags, with Capybara Birthday Party on the front.

Our free classroom license covers printing for a whole group.

Printing tips for the best results

  • Print the whole set at once. The all-pages PDF is a free 21-page capybara coloring book.
  • Print in black and white with “Fit to page.” These printable capybara coloring pages are pure line art.
  • Use cardstock for markers. No bleed-through.

How I made and checked these pages

Every page is an original ColorTheDay design, and I looked at each one before it went live: bold, closed outlines, simple enough for a preschooler, and a title that says what’s drawn. Fourteen went back for a redraw in the first round alone. Several early capybaras looked like teddy bears with round black noses, and four pages never got it right, so I cut them. The orange ratings are my own, and the spaces to color are counted, not guessed.

More furry friends live in our animal coloring pages, including the cat coloring pages, and our kawaii coloring pages share the same cute style. Then scroll up, pick your favorite capybara coloring pages and tap Download PDF!

Frequently asked questions

Are these capybara coloring pages free?

Yes, all 21. No sign-up, no email form. Print them as often as you like at home, in class or for a party. I only ask that you don’t sell the pages or upload the files to another site. Share a link to this page instead.

Which capybara coloring pages are easiest for toddlers?

The 1 orange pages. Capybara Eating Watermelon and Capybara Family Walking by the River have only 17 spaces each, and Mama Capybara with Two Babies has 18. Big round bodies and thick outlines, which is what a two-year-old with a chunky crayon needs.

Which capybara pages suit older kids or a classroom?

The sheets, the pattern and the doodle collage: Nine Capybara Faces with Party Hats and More, Capybara in Four Seasons, Capybaras with Oranges on Their Heads Pattern and Capybara Spa Day Doodles. For lettering, try Happy Capy Holding a Flower, Stay Chill Capybara on a Pool Float or Best Friends Capybaras Hugging.

Can I print all the pages as one capybara coloring book?

Yes. Tap “Download all 21 pages” for one PDF with every outline. Print it single-sided, let your kid draw a cover (in my house it always gets an orange on top) and staple the left edge.

Can teachers print these capybara coloring sheets for a whole class?

Please do. A copy for every student in a class, homeschool co-op or library group is free. Just don’t resell the pages or host the PDFs on another website. The license page has the details.

How to print capybara coloring pages?

Tap “Download PDF” under the capybara page you want, or “Download all 21 pages” for the full set. Open the file, choose Print and pick “Fit to page” or 100%. The PDFs are US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches) and print fine on A4. They’re black outlines on white, so black-and-white printing works.

What colors should I use for a capybara?

Real capybaras are reddish brown to grayish brown on the back, with a lighter, yellowish brown belly. Start with tan all over, then add a darker brown along the back and the top of the head. A little pink on the cheeks gives you the kawaii look.
