Dragon Coloring Pages (Free Printable PDFs)

These 25 free printable dragon coloring pages star cute baby dragons: one hatching from an egg, one napping on the moon, one guarding treasure and one sharing tea with a princess. I sorted every page by size, from Hatchling to Big Dragon, so little kids can start small. Each page is a free PDF, and so is the whole set.

Hi, I’m Niks. My nephew is four, and he loves dragons right up until one shows its teeth. Most dragon pictures online go straight for fire and claws, so I made easy dragon coloring pages where every dragon is friendly, then sorted them by how much coloring each one takes. Print one page, or all 25 in a single PDF.

How big is each dragon page?

The style never changes, so the real difference between pages is how many spaces there are to fill. I counted them and sorted the pages into three dragon sizes. A Hatchling takes a few minutes. A Big Dragon can eat a whole afternoon.

Size levelWhat it meansPages

Our favorite dragon coloring pages

Baby Dragon Hatching from an Egg

A smiling baby dragon pops out of a cracked egg and waves. The shell has polka dots, a heart and a zigzag band, so even the egg is fun to color. I print this one first for any dragon fan.

Sleepy Dragon on the Moon

A baby dragon naps on a crescent moon with clouds, stars and hearts, inside an oval frame. Only 19 spaces, the easiest page here, and a sweet one for bedtime.

Little Knight and Dragon Best Friends

A small knight in a plumed helmet holds a heart shield and hugs a baby dragon. My answer to every “but knights fight dragons” comment.

Six Dragon Eggs Sheet

Six eggs, six patterns: stripes, hearts and dots, zigzags, wavy lines, stars and scales. Kids like guessing what kind of dragon hatches from each.

Lunar New Year Dragon with Lanterns

A long dragon curls in an S shape, with round scales, a curly mane and whiskers, among three round paper lanterns. Red and gold are traditional. My nephew went lime green, and honestly it worked.

Baby Dragon in a Flower Wreath

A winking dragon sits inside a round wreath of daisies, roses and leaves. At 234 spaces it’s the biggest page in the set, and the one I keep for myself.

Which dragon coloring page is right for your child?

Go by spaces to color: fewer spaces, younger hands. A patient five-year-old may love a Fledgling page, so treat the ages as a starting point.

Baby dragon coloring pages in this set

Pretty much the whole set counts as baby dragon coloring pages. The babiest are the Baby Dragon Hatching from an Egg, Mommy and Baby Dragon, Tiny Dragon in a Teacup and the Six Baby Dragons Sheet, where one dragon even curls up asleep.

Want maximum cute? Color pink cheeks under the eyes, keep the body soft (mint, peach, lilac) and save bright colors for the belly stripes and wings.

Dragon coloring sheets: eggs, faces and doodles

Five pages hold lots of small drawings instead of one big picture: the Six Baby Dragons Sheet, the Six Dragon Eggs Sheet, the Four Dragons with Fruit Sheet (watermelon, apple, strawberry, banana), the Baby Dragon Faces Pattern with fifteen faces, and Dragon World Doodles with castles, a crown, gems and smiling flames. Color them, cut them apart, and you have gift tags.

Dragon coloring pages for adults

These are easy pages, not intricate mandalas. Still, the Big Dragon pages make a calm evening page: the Baby Dragon in a Flower Wreath (234 spaces), the Baby Dragon Faces Pattern (89), the Six Dragon Eggs Sheet (87) and the Lunar New Year Dragon with Lanterns (77). Rotate three colors, say teal, coral and gold.

How to color dragon pages: 6 tips

1. Give your dragon a color recipe

Dragons are imaginary, so no color is wrong. Pick one for the body, a lighter one for the belly stripes and a third for wings and horns, and the dragon looks like one creature, not a patchwork.

2. Shade the scales on one side

On the Lunar New Year dragon, fill each round scale with a light shade and darken its bottom edge. Same side every time.

3. Make treasure shine without a gold crayon

Yellow coins, a bit of orange or light brown on one edge, a small white spot left blank. Give each gem its own color and a white triangle in one corner.

4. Color flames from the inside out

The smiling flames in Dragon World Doodles look hottest with yellow in the middle, then orange, then red on the tips.

5. Keep skies soft

On the moon, rainbow and balloon pages, pale blue or lavender lets the dragon pop. Solid black swallows your lines.

6. Match the tool to the child

Chunky crayons for toddlers on Hatchling pages. Colored pencils for egg patterns and scales. Markers on heavier paper for bold color.

A little dragon lore to share while you color

Dragons aren’t real, but the stories are old and the facts are fun:

  1. The word “dragon” comes from the ancient Greek drakon, which meant a large serpent.
  2. European dragons in stories usually have wings and breathe fire. Chinese dragons are long, wingless and linked with water and rain.
  3. The dragon is one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. 2024 was a Year of the Dragon, and the next one is 2036.
  4. In a Lunar New Year dragon dance, a team of performers holds up a long dragon on poles and makes it ripple.
  5. The flag of Wales shows a red dragon on white and green.
  6. There is a real “dragon”: the Komodo dragon of Indonesia, the largest living lizard.

Dragon classroom and party ideas

Last month I brought a stack of these to my nephew’s preschool. By snack time one dragon was named “Mr. Pancake.” Here’s what worked:

  • Climb the size levels. Kids start on a Hatchling page and earn a Fledgling when they finish. Older kids go for a Big Dragon.
  • Dragon vocabulary. Label the horns, wings, scales, claws, snout and tail, then add hatch, treasure and lantern.
  • Counting. Count the six eggs, the fifteen faces, the four birthday candles and the three cupcakes at the tea party.
  • A day in a dragon’s life. Line up the Baby Dragon Hatching from an Egg, Mommy and Baby Dragon, Baby Dragon Reading Under a Tree and Sleepy Dragon on the Moon, and tell the story in order.
  • A dragon coloring book. Print the all-pages PDF, have each child write their dragon’s name on the cover, and staple.

The free classroom license explains what you can print.

Printing tips for the best results

  • Print the whole set at once. The all-pages PDF holds all 25 free dragon coloring pages as one book.
  • Print in black and white with “Fit to page.” It’s pure line art.
  • Use light cardstock for signs and cards. The RAWR and HAPPY BIRTHDAY pages last longer on it, and markers won’t bleed.

How I made and checked these pages

Every page is an original ColorTheDay design, and I looked at each one before it went live. Outlines have to be bold and closed, each page has to be easy enough for a preschooler, and the title has to say exactly what’s drawn. Ten pages got redrawn, mostly because the first versions looked suspiciously like kittens. The size levels are my own call, and the “spaces to color” numbers are counted, not guessed.

Frequently asked questions

Are these dragon coloring pages free?

Yes, all 25. No account, no email address. Print as many copies as you like for home, school, a library program or a dragon birthday party. I only ask that you don’t sell the pages or upload the files to another website. Share a link to this page instead.

Are these dragon coloring pages scary for toddlers?

No. These are cute dragon coloring pages: chubby babies and one gentle mom, all with round faces and smiles. Nobody has sharp teeth, fights or breathes fire. For toddlers, start with a Hatchling page like the Sleepy Dragon on the Moon (19 spaces) or the Baby Dragon Hatching from an Egg (25).

Which dragon coloring sheets suit older kids or a classroom?

The Six Baby Dragons Sheet, the Six Dragon Eggs Sheet and the Four Dragons with Fruit Sheet split nicely between kids, and Dragon World Doodles is good for labeling. The lettering pages (Dream Big Dragon on a Cloud, Rawr Baby Dragon, Happy Birthday Dragon with a Cake) make fun door signs.

Can I print all the pages as one dragon coloring book?

Yes. Tap “Download all 25 pages” and you get one PDF with every outline in it. Print it, let your kid draw their own dragon on a blank cover sheet, and staple the left edge. That’s a homemade dragon coloring book in about five minutes.

Can teachers print these dragon coloring sheets for a whole class?

Please do. A copy for every student in a classroom, homeschool group or library club is free, and the pages fit a fairy tale unit, Lunar New Year or St George’s Day. Just don’t resell them or post the PDFs on another site. The license page has the details.

How to print dragon coloring pages?

Tap “Download PDF” under the dragon page you want, or “Download all 25 pages” for the full set. Open the file, choose Print and pick “Fit to page” or 100%. Every PDF is US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches) and prints fine on A4. They’re black outlines on white, so black-and-white printing works.

How do you color dragon scales so they look real?

Use two shades of one color, like light and dark green. Fill each scale with the light shade, then press the dark one along its bottom edge, on the same side every time. That repeated shadow makes the scales look like they overlap. Leave a tiny white gap at the top for shine.
